Here’s a thing …

We spend a lot of time worrying about whether or not we are providing sufficient to support young people, in what are after all very difficult times. Post Covid and in a world increasingly pressured by family food and energy costs,  the crisis in housing and employment are very real immediate daily stresses. That’s without the backdrop of a much more unstable world than we have seen for decades and the growing impact of climate change.

Too often we think these problems are too big for us to personally do much about. However, if we are that concerned, we have to do something practical to make a difference to the lives we offer teenagers and young adults in Tattenhall. A first step may be to be prepared to find the money, the time, energy, enthusiasm and leadership to provide better experiences for young people between 13 and 16 years.  No one or two individuals have the skills and capacity to provide all these skills but a group could.

There's been much talk over recent years about the need to provide a youth club, a space for young people to meet regularly and be in a social setting that is not their home but is safe and reliable. It is many years since Tattenhall had a Youth Club and such initiatives of the 1960s may not now be so relevant; it might be that the ideas of an evening or Saturday morning ‘cafe’ might make better sense? It will be necessary for young people themselves to advise on what may be most helpful. This can only happen if  a group of committed adults/parents are willing to lead the process.

To begin to apply for money, to better meet the needs of young people, we will need to have  a committee. Funds are now available for building community resilience through the Cheshire West and Cheshire Community Initiative Fund

If you are interested let us know at transition.tattenhall@gmail.com and we can facilitate a gathering to discuss.
